Black Friday saw top shopping apps grab half a million new App Store users led by Amazon

Black Friday saw top shopping apps grab half a million new App Store users led by Amazon

Just the other day, we told you that data from Adobe indicated that 33.5%, or $2.1 billion of online Black Friday sales came from smartphones. This morning, a report from Sensor Tower revealed that the top ten shopping apps on the Apple App Store added 500,000 new users last Friday. That happens to be a 16.3% hike over the number of first time users who visited the top ten shopping apps last year. Overall, the number of new shopping app installations on the App Store rose 9% from 2017 to hit 1.8 million. The increase in new installations for shopping apps on the App Store was led by Amazon. The latter had 115,000 first-time users on Black Friday, up 11.7 over last year. Walmart was second with 95,000 new users, up 39.7% from last year's figure. Target was third, rising 3.3% year-over-year to grab 62,000 new users. The top specialty retailer on the new users list was Best Buy, which placed fifth in that category. The big box electronics and appliance retailer had 39,000 first-time users installing its app on Black Friday up 34.5% over last year's 29,000 new users. Sensor Tower also broke down the list by retailers that are online only, and those with a brick and mortar presence. Walmart had the most new users in the latter category, while Amazon was tops for the former. The top 10 brick and mortar shopping apps had a 24.7% increase over 2017 in new installations while the top ten in the online only group had a 20% increase in first-time users year-over-year.
